3 Natural Ways To Combat The Side-Effects Of Menopause

Many women hear about Menopause through the hearsay of a “friend of a friend”. Perhaps you’ve heard an older Aunt (or worse, an Uncle) sarcastically remark to another woman that appears hot, “Are you having a hot flash or something?” Expecting the side effects of menopausal symptoms to be akin to someone’s snide remarks, or a relative’s running joke isn’t going to give you a very accurate picture. The truth can be much more severe. The flip-side of this coin is that there are also ways to naturally combat the side-effects of menopause.

Instead of natural ways to treat symptoms of menopause, most MDs point to pills or prescription creams. Progesterone steroids are what most doctors will prescribe. If they worked well most women would throw caution to the wind at this point, and welcome the well-known drawbacks from using steroids. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case: the steroidal creams often only provide minimal relief and do more harm than good.

With the onset of “The Information Age”, knowledge of “natural cures” and “safe, natural treatments” for menopause have become much more commonplace. Real people find forums where they can share their experiences, good and bad, and people can hear from people other than a doctor that may or may not have a “pharmaceutical bias”. This isn’t to say that you should ditch your doctor and simply self-diagnose on WebMD all day. Simply, that you can get a clearer picture of the truth when you can weigh all the facts for yourself.

So what are we dealing with here?

According to the Mayo Clinic:

Common Side Effects of Menopause (in reality) can include:

• vaginal dryness to the point of raw, roughened, rashy skin

• osteoporosis

• insomnia

• hair loss

• night sweats

• hot flashes, up to 2-3 times an hour; sometimes causing fainting

• irritability; anxiety

• Aches. pains

• pain during intercourse

• severely diminished sex drive (obviously)

There’s several Products with proprietary formulas that have been proven to help women Ages 50 and up. The first two are more preventative measures. They’re what you want to take prior to the onset of menopause, or just after it’s begun. And you can take one or the other, depending on how much protection or revitalization you’re looking for. The third is what you’d want to add in once you’ve started to experience the (un)natural symptoms of menopause.

Therapeutic Grade: Fact or Fiction?

The topic of essential oils has become a hot one throughout the world, and it seems that every day there is a new use or medicinal purpose for what we originally thought just had a benevolent fragrance. The question has now become “what is fact versus fiction, what are its medicinal benefits, and what does therapeutic grade really mean?”.

There is no denying that essential oils have many fascinating uses, but what exactly can you do with them? While most companies don’t recommend imbibing the oils themselves, they say it is ok to use them sparingly while cooking. Science has shown there is no medicinal benefit to doing so, but it has created a new fragrant style of cooking where chefs can use their creativity by adding powerful aromas to their dishes.

While cooking it produces one effect, many people believe that combining the pure oils with carrier oils and applying them to specific areas can have many health benefits. While some of the claims tend to be a bit outlandish, scientists have insisted to not throw all of the claims, such as healthy skin, acne treatments, and other small ailments. Other claims such as curing cancer and serious illness tend to take away from some of the amazing therapeutic benefits essential oils can be used for.

This is where people generally get confused with the term “therapeutic grade”. The definition tends to vary from company to company which makes sense when you see that most of the research was done within their own facilities. In fact, there is no certification or credibility behind the term “therapeutic grade”. You can only mention purity of an oil and it is either pure or it is not.

Scents have more power than we think and when used properly they can help us remember things we may have suppressed or bring back warm memories of our youth. It can help us unwind and lower our blood pressure by relieving our stress. There are scientific reasons for why essentials oils are actually good for you, so stop looking for miracles and focus on the facts behind and the ingredients in the product you are using. There is only one type of essential oil you should be looking at for the best results, 100% pure essential oils. Therapeutic grade is a marketing, not a scientific term.

Ammonia-D Danger & Damage: 7 Side-Effects You Should Know

With our current ability to communicate quickly and openly online, there’s no longer any excuses to remain ignorant on all of these Ammonia-D side-effects.

“Ammonia-D” is actually Proctor & Gamble’s version of this public poison, which they put in Windex. What’s the “D” in “Ammonia-D” stand for?

Danger? Death? Dishonesty? Who knows? One thing is certain: the general public is still largely in the dark about Ammonia-D.

Imagine you’re an uncaring, greedy, big chemical company and one of your best-sellers suddenly stopped being ordered by all your big commercial buyers because of OSHA & EPA regulations. You would try to downplay the danger, maybe rename the poison, and recoup some of those losses by selling to an already-busy, over-worked, unsuspecting public.

Long-term exposure tests are still being conducted, but there’s a lot of studies on ammonia already published. I’ve gone ahead and sifted through pages and pages of reports for you.

In no particular order, here’s a quick rundown of 7 major side-effects of Ammonia-D.

  1. Contact can cause skin irritation (like dermatitis), and, with repeated exposure, possibly lead to severe skin damage
  2. Contact can severely burn your eyes, including potential eye damage.
  3. Inhaling Ammonia-D can irritate the nose and throat.
  4. Inhaling Ammonia-D can irritate the lungs.
  5. Higher exposures can severely damage the lungs, causing a build-up of fluid (also known as a pulmonary edema), a medical emergency
  6. Repeated exposure can also cause an asthma-like allergy and permanent airway damage.
  7. Contact with liquid ammonia can cause frostbite(!)

Does this sound like a substance you would want near your pets, friends and family?  Of course not! We wouldn’t wish these Ammonia-D side-effects onto our worst enemies.  And we’re bringing this poison into our homes, spraying it and allowing it to work its way through our air vents, while our children are sleeping.

There’s no longer any reason to keep our head in the sand. Take a stand with me, please, and avoid using these horrible products—at all costs.  Myrna, Green Clean Life Champion!

What Does Green Really Mean?

The Environmental Working Group, or EWG, has come out with a “Hall of Shame” list and what it contains will shock and educate you. Many of the products you use in your home contain carcinogens, asthma inhibitors, and toxins. Are you paying more for that name brand cleaner for unregulated product? According to research shown, a staggering 93% of cleaning products in this independent study did not accurately state the contents nor the quantity of contents properly! The EWG research also showed that 53% of the solutions contained chemicals that are hazardous to the lungs and can cause serious damage. To add insult to injury, many of these cleaners also contained common carcinogens like formaldehyde and chlorine, but something even worse lurks around the corner

Being green is one way to combat these pesky, poisonous materials, but that “green” label you see on most products in the store also doesn’t has hidden meanings! Companies have made mild changes to their formula to qualify for these new “green” labels, but it is an attempt to take advantage of a rising market. These cleaning products might as well be toxic moltov-cocktail filled with phthalates, benzene, and phenols. This is why the movement is making so much cash though, because the manufacturer and middle-man are taking advantage of your trust.

You can’t judge a book by its cover, and you can’t trust a label jus because it says green. If you really want a green product that won’t be filled with chemicals, look to natural anti-bacterial replacements like tea tree oil and baking soda. Real Simple Magazine suggests. Lemon juice, cooking oil, and vinegar are some that you can find around the house and start using right away, so what are you waiting for? Time to join the Green Clean Life Movement.

Be Wary of Cartoon Vitamins

Everyone remembers getting some sort of delicious gummy in the shape of a famous cartoon character that was supposed to be good for kids. After a certain period of time, parents deem these sugary vitamins unnecessary, and we usually pick them back up in our 30s to 40s. There are so many vitamins, which one is the right one? If the supplements many of our friends and family are taking aren’t making them healthier, then what are they doing?

Several studies from independent sources show that hardly any of the supplements on the market can guarantee any benefit or even show that their product is being absorbed. In some cases, they might even increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and mortality due to a raise in free radicals. Of course we need certain vitamins and minerals because certain malnourishments in our body can lead to disease and organ failure.

This leaves us with the tricky question of how do we get enough vitamins in minerals, but avoid improperly digested minerals from crystalizing in our intestines. If you eat a “healthy” diet filled with fruits, veggies, and healthy sources of protein, you are taking a solid step towards proper nourishment. If you are taking vitamins, look for ones that offer high absorption. Some supplements use a special plant-cell casing that can offer up to 22% higher absorption of the nutrients inside! This offers great support to the reduction of free radicals as well work to help fight off inflammation, which is another major cause for cancer and other illnesses.

No one supplement is going to cure all your ailments, make you skinny, or turn back the clock. However, when proper supplementation is taken into account, we can help to combat free radicals and aging. If you trust just any old product though that isn’t certified, green, and patented, then you could be putting yourself in harm way.

What’s In Your Pet’s Food & Treats?

Just because you bought a bag of dog food from the veterinarian’s office claiming it is a higher quality than supermarket options does not make it nutritional.  One look at the order of the ingredients list will show that the protein comes from grains, or grain by-products such as cornmeal, wheat, & brewers rice rather than from premium meat sources

There are hundreds of brands across the country in grocery stores that mostly contain poultry by-product.  These leftovers consist of feet, beaks, undeveloped eggs, and intestines. Most formulas contain a couple of specialized ingredients to make them appear as a specialized health diet for limitless reasons. The truth is a healthy diet can help keep your dog healthy and happy for much longer, but it must consist of a proper protein source and appropriate nutrition supplementation.

When you’re looking for the best high quality food, look for ingredients like chicken meal or lamb meal to be listed before any grains are. Our family pets are designed by nature to eat protein from meat sources, so the high grain content many pet foods contain is one of the leading contributors to the growing obesity issues in pets. This being said, it isn’t recommended to completely remove grains from your animals diet.

Most people will tell you that “human food” is not good for your pets, while most holistically trained veterinarians encourage the practice of feeding fresh food to our pets. If you do feed them non formulated food, keep it to healthy items such as meat, steamed and finely chopped veggies & fruits, baked sweet potato, rice, oatmeal (and no junk food!) If you feed them this way, remember to lessen the portion of their own food so that they don’t put on extra pounds.

Remember, not all healthy foods for us are good for them. Onions, grapes and raisins can all be toxic to our cats and dogs. If you’re not positive it’s safe for them, don’t feed them it!  And, don’t forget to supplement for things like hip and joint problems.  The correct supplementation can add years to your pet’s life and life to your pet’s years.

Your Sunscreen May Be Cancer Causing

The FDA may not have banned spray-on sunscreens as of yet, but one thing is for sure, they are doing more harm than good. We can at least thank the FDA for recently shedding some light on the potential health risks, especially regarding young children. This information feels like a 911 alert as most of the country slathers it on as if it’s a health food.

Let’s be very clear, inhaling aerosol sunscreen is dangerous and causes injury to the lungs. Especially, when it is being applied to the face, sunscreen is just plain toxic. At the very least, spray it into your hands first, then apply to your face. If there were no other options, maybe, but the truth is that there are a few, trusted alternatives on the market. Green Clean Life can help you make better choices.

Spraying sunscreen into the air also allows the spray to drift off into the air instead of adhering to the skin. This causes you to use much more than you would if it were a cream. The safest alternatives are cream and lotion formulas designed with no toxic chemicals and are safe for the whole family. The last thing you want to do is poison your family while you think you are keeping them safe.

One of the ingredients you should be looking out for is the chemical “oxybenzone”. This is predominant in almost every sunscreen you will find at your local drugstore. Unfortunately, oxybenzone penetrates the skin, promoting indirect DNA damage which causes the most lethal form of skin cancer: malignant melanoma. You read that correctly, your sunscreen is potentially causing cancer! Instead, use a mineral sunscreen (think zinc) to keep the sun protection on the surface of the skin.

Fabric Softener and Dryer Sheets are Poisonous

Skipping the fabric softener in your laundry cycle can save your family from chemical reactions and poisoning. They might make your clothes feel soft and fresh, but fabric softeners and dryer sheets are some of the most toxic products on the market. It is a safe bet that most Americans are not linking chemicals in these products to cancer and brain damage.

Here is a list of just a few of the chemicals found in fabric softeners and dryer sheets:

A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage

Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer

Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant
Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders
Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic
Ethanol: On the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders
Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list
Limonene: Known carcinogen

Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders

Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled

Soft Ocean Mist, Summer Orchard and April Fresh sound a little less benign now, don’t they? Companies manufacturing these products use 50 times more fragrance than necessary to cover up the smell of all of those toxic chemicals. Next load, remember, that flowery smell is there to conceal chemicals from you. Is it really worth it?

If you are having any of these symptoms, you could be a victim of dryer sheet poisoning, please consult a physician.

Central nervous system disorders
Headaches
Nausea
Vomiting
Dizziness
Blood pressure reduction
Irritation to skin, mucus membranes and respiratory tract
Pancreatic cancer
It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to make your own products by hand, you don’t have to spend a fortune on organic products, you don’t even have to eliminate using these items. Carpets – A Petri Dish of Bacteria

60% of homes in the US have carpets. They also cover the floors of our schools and businesses. Children play for hours on them, infants crawl on them. New homeowners breathe in that “new carpet smell” proudly! STOP!
You are smelling chemicals!

New carpets contain ‘volatile organic compounds’ aka VOC’s. These include toluene, benzene, formaldehyde, ethyl benzene, styrene, and acetone, just to name a few. Most have already made the EPA’s list of Extremely Hazardous Substances. Known carcinogens such as p-Dichlorobenzene are in new carpets, as are chemicals that produce fetal abnormalities in test animals. These chemicals are also known to cause hallucinations and nerve damage.

That ‘new carpet smell’ comes from 4-PC, associated with eye, nose and upper respiratory problems that are suffered by many new carpet owners. 4-PC is used in the latex backing of 95% of US carpets. In 2000 the 3M Company removed the chemical perflouro-octanyl Salphonate from their product, ‘Scotchgard’, because it had been found to cause reproductive problems in rats. These are just a few of the problems with carpets.

Older carpets can be more of a hazard than new ones: Not only do they contain the chemicals banned from more recent production, they also have had years to accumulate pounds of dust mites, dirt, pesticides and other toxins brought in on shoes, feet and pet’s paws.

Did you know that your carpet can hold 8 times it’s weight in toxin filled dirt and you can’t even see the trapped dirt that your carpet is hiding! The EPA has stated that 80% of human exposure to pesticides happens indoors. Every time you spray for bugs or use a fogger, the chemicals settle in the rug and stay there for years older carpets are so toxic that your chances of being exposed to hazardous chemicals are 10-50 times higher in a carpeted room than outdoors. If the carpet is plush or shag, your risk increases substantially.

What can you do? Take action to reduce your exposure to carpet toxins. First, if you can, get rid of the carpeting. If not that, then vacuum with a Well Sealed High Quality HEPA Vacuum Cleaner that can do a much better job of cleaning your carpets then the cheaper vacuum cleaners found at most department stores. Steam cleaning can kill dust mites and bacteria.

Many Houses Built Before 1975 Contain Asbestos

Asbestos is the Greek word for inextinguishable. This inexpensive fire-retardant material, thermal and acoustic insulator was used extensively in home construction from the early 1940s through the 1970s. However, we now know that prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers can lead to lung disease. When disturbed, tiny abrasive asbestos fibers are easily inhaled, which damages lung tissue and can cause cancer. In homes built prior to 1975, asbestos is most commonly found as thermal insulation on broilers, pipes and popcorn ceilings. Unfortunately, it can also be found in other household materials including but not limited to: vinyl floor tiles, glue that attaches floor tiles to concrete or wood, some forms of linoleum, roofing, and plaster.

If Asbestos crumbles or has been sawed, scraped, or sanded into a powder is likely to release asbestos fibers and create a health hazard. If your home was built prior to 1977, it typically is only a $45 fee to have your affected area tested for asbestos. If you test positive, you must hire a professional HAZMAT team that is licensed and bonded to handle this situation. In some cases, in some geographical locations and dwelling types, a permit will be required.

From 1999 to 2013, the years for which data are currently available, we have estimated the number of deaths from asbestos exposure in the U.S. at 189,000 to 221,000 people, or 12,000 to 15,000 deaths a year. Those figures are based on a review of federal records of deaths from diseases caused exclusively by asbestos, plus a calculation using a formula developed by international cancer researchers to estimate the number of lung cancer deaths likely caused by asbestos. You could have asbestos lurking in your home right now! The fact is that over 30 billion dollars has been set aside in class action lawsuits that help to provide a monetary value to the cancers brought to these people. You don’t even have to go to court, you only need to prove that your cancer or other ailments are a product of asbestos exposure.

There are so many things in your home that are causing widespread cancer. Green Clean Life is dedicated to exposing these these toxic chemicals and their retail products so we can put an end to unnecessary disease.
